Left-shoe theft explained

04/01/2010

Police in southern Sweden believe they have put an end to a spate of shoe-theft in the local area.

Thieves were targeting footwear retail outlets in and around the city of Malmo, but were stealing single shoes for the left foot only from displays outside shops.

Local police arrested two men on January 2 and found out that their strategy was to steal the left shoe in Sweden before crossing the border to Denmark to steal matching right shoes; shops in the neighbouring countries put the right shoe on display.
