Waste project success for Turkish tanner

Turkish tanning group Sepiciler Holding, which makes shoe upper, glazed kid, sole-leather, and double-face kid-suede at its facilities in Caybasi-Izmir and Menemen, has completed a new project at the waste water treatment plant at its Caybasi complex.

The initiative has focused on the disposal and storage of sludge from the waste water treatment plant and has resulted in Sepiciler deciding to convert the sludge into organic fertilizer.

Technical coordinator, Talip Sepici, commented: “We are very happy that, the sludge will be used in agriculture as fertilizer and will increase the yield of agricultural products.”

About six years ago, Sepiciler started producing grease from raw trimmings and limed trimmings as part of an effort to decrease the amount of solid waste from its pre-tanning processes.
