Taiwanese colour-changing shoe launches

Researchers from Taiwan’s Footwear & Recreation Technology Research Institute have launched a new leather shoe which they claim changes colour when it comes into contact with sunlight.

Developers claim the technology makes the shoe more comfortable and makes people more aware of ultraviolet rays. It is achieved by spraying the level with a microcapsule spray containing luminous particles and resin.

"The leather shoes' base colour is white,” a spokesperson told the Independent Online. “But within 30 seconds after coming into contact with sunlight, the colour gradually changes to pink, orange or purple, depending on the ingredients we spray on to the leather." He added that, depending on the design, either the whole shoe, or part of it can change its colour, and that the colour-changing function can last for up to 60 hours.
