Italy’s shoe exports fall
A report compiled by ANCI, based on figures from the country’s national statistics institute, ISTAT, shows that Italy’s exports of shoes with leather uppers fell in both volume and value between January and July compared with the same period last year.
The number of pairs exported fell 17.5% year-on-year, while export value dropped 16.5%. However, the average price per pair rose 1.2% to €38.10.
These declines were in line with the overall shoe figures for the seven-month period, which fell 16% in volume and 16.6% in value. The top three export destinations for Italian shoes were France, Germany and the UK, although exports to each fell in both volume and value between January and July.
Italy’s leather shoe imports fell 9% during the first seven months of the year, but rose 1.5% in value. Import price per pair was up 11.6% to €17.24. Total shoe imports fell 14% in volume and rose 3.17%, with price per pair up 20%.
