Pakistan: leather footwear exports fall in October

Pakistan’s leather sector exports fell by 3.2% during the month of October to $65.4 million from $67.5 million in September this year. Compared to October 2008, the decline was 8%.

The breakdown showed that the country exported finished leather worth $23.2 million and $36 million worth of leathergoods. Leather footwear exports were valued at just over $6 million. The figure for finished leather represents a 13.7% increase on the figure for September. However, leathergoods and leather footwear showed declines in export values for the month, compared to September, of 11.7% and 2.9% respectively.

Pakistan’s total leather sector exports for the first four months of the current financial year (July-October) are down by 25.3% to $151 million from $202 million for the same period last year.
