Spanish shoe industry mourns Pascual Ros

The founder of Elche-based footwear brand Mustang, Pascual Ros, has died at the age of 65 after several months of illness.

Mr Ros was one of the forces behind the setting up of the Spanish National Footwear Federation (FICE) in 1977 and served on its inaugural executive committee. The organisation issued a statement on hearing the news expressing its condolences to the footwear entrepreneur's family and friends.

"Pascual Ros's path through life was always linked to footwear," the FICE statement said. "Born in Elche in 1944, he set out on his own in 1961 when he decided to put all his energy into setting up a brand that would be built on all the values that he put into his own work. That brand, Mustang, has become one of the leading companies in the footwear industry, on the domestic market as well as in various international markets."
