Small companies bid for innovation funding

                    A total of 272 small fashion sector manufacturing companies in the Italian region of Le Marche have bid for funding under a plan to encourage business innovation in the area.
Money is available from the European Union to help Le Marche inject new energy into its manufacturing sector. The authorities there asked local companies to submit details of specific innovation projects that they were seeking to get off the ground, for which individual grants of between EUR 25,000 and EUR 500,000 are available.
Thirteen of the companies applying for funding are from the leather sector, while 165 represent the industry Le Marche is most famous for, footwear.
In announcing the applications, regional vice-president, Paolo Petrini, said: “This exercise has shown that, in spite of the crisis, lots of companies in in this part of Italy still want to invest in innovation. Even less structured companies, like many of our artisan footwear makers, there is an important place for innovation.”
