Payless takes shoe coupon idea international

Footwear retail group Payless ShoeSource has announced that it will provide shoes free or at a reduced price to needy children through a network of community charities.
The company will donate more than 75,000 coupons, with a combined value of $1.2 million, that families will be able to redeem to pay entirely or in part for a pair of children’s shoes. The vouchers will be redeemable in stores in the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, Honduras, Nicaragua and Colombia, as well as in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.
Matt Rubel, chief executive officer of Payless' parent company, Collective Brands, explained that the company had already established the programme in the US, but had decided to expand it after employees in some of its Latin American stores asked for something similar.
