Bangladesh sets ambitious export target
The Bangladeshi government’s target for the 2009-10 financial year is 13% higher than last year’s, according to the customs ministry. The new target for the year is $17.6 billion.
The export target for footwear is up 1.3%, as is the target for leather. Meanwhile, ready-made garments are expected to account for 79.5% of total exports.
However, exporters are reportedly concerned by the ambitious new targets. With exports to the US and Europe still falling, many believe the targets are unrealistic and impractical.
