The Modacalzado exhibition in Madrid (which took place between September 24 and 26) received a boost on the penultimate day when Princess Letizia of Asturias, the wife of the heir to the throne, Prince Felipe, paid a visit.

Before touring the stands of 16 Spanish footwear manufacturers, the princess, a former journalist, held meetings with footwear and leathergoods industry leaders to discuss how these sectors are responding to current economic challenges.

Afterwards, Rafael Calvo, president of the Spanish National Footwear Federation (FICE), said afterwards: “This wasn't just a routine visit. The princess told me during our meeting that she loves shoes, that they are her weakness. She is genuinely interested in the sector. The moral support she has shown us means a lot to everyone.”
