Modacalzado opens for business

The Modacalzado footwear event opened in Madrid on September 24, with a total of 720 footwear brands displaying their collections for spring-summer 2010.
The Spanish Footwear Industry Federation (FICE) said at the start of the event that country's footwear industry was in a "reasonably stable" position. It said exports of Spanish shoes had increased in volume over the first five months of 2009, compared to the same period last year, by 6% to 46.2 million pairs, although the value of these exports (€747.2 million) fell by 3.8%.
Exports to France rose by 45.3% in volume and by 15.5% in value. Italy and Portugal were the other popular destinations for Spanish brands.
