ANCI warns of long, slow recovery

The Italian Footwear Manufacturers’ Association (ANCI) has warned that recovery of footwear sector from the economic downturn will be long and slow.
The organisation’s president, Vito Artioli, said at the start of the latest edition of Milan-based footwear event Micam: “We know that this crisis was not caused by the competitiveness of our companies and that our skills and the quality of our products were not factors in it. Our competitive capacity remains intact. This is a system crisis, born in the financial world. The reasons behind this were not our responsibility.”
However, he said Italian footwear manufacturers were ready to take advantage of any and every possible sign of recovery and that the desire of member companies to invest in new and old markets is unchanged.
