Rohde workers face two-month lay-off

The Portuguese subsidiary of German footwear brand Rohde has told its workers in Santa Maria da Feira in the north of the country that they face a two-month lay-off.
Around 1,000 workers will be affected by the closure, which the company insists will be temporary, but which many observers believe is a precursor to the company moving out permanently.
The town’s mayor, Alfredo Henriques, has said the authorities will help families by buying books for the new term and school lunches for children whose parents are affected by the temporary closure of the footwear factory.
