New shoe and bag trends at GDS
According to the organisers of GDS, lightness, softness and a natural feel will be the main feature of materials used in bag and shoe collections for spring-summer 2010.
It is expecting exhibitors at the show, which runs September 11-13 in
Use of colour will be significantly subtler, with mid-tones and tone-on-tone graduations gaining ground. Pastel tones have lost their sweet touch and look almost transparent, as if covered by a milky veil. Neutral beiges and greys are supplemented by faded, mid-blue and green nuances. However, there will be exotic touches with papaya, turquoise, kiwi and fuchsia shades as well as brushed gold and silver coming into play.
Shoe trends will include soft moccasins and casual top siders offered in unisex styles. Ballerinas, sneakers and canvas shoes will all feature prominently, as will retro tennis shoes, platforms and wedges. Materials such as cork, sisal and wood plus variations that are printed and (partially) covered with leather will be on show.
Gladiator styles with fairly wide straps and numerous fasteners are either totally flat or come with high platform wedges. Next summer these will be joined by ankle sandal boots that are open toe with the leg reaching over the ankle. Unlined, lightweight summer boots with wider legs and perforations can be worn with shorts and shirt-style dresses
Sporty styles will be key for men. The trend is heading for rounded lasts that are sometimes slightly domed in shape. Lace-ups and loafers feature an elaborate finish and often two-tone effects. Casual boots have also become a firm fixture for men, alongside moccasins, mid-cut styles in canvas and desert boots in supple suede.
