Milton Cardoso has been re-elected president of the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (Abicalçados) and will now serve as president until 2011. The ceremony took place last month in São Paulo.

In his speech, Mr Cardoso said: “We had problems in exports, due to the shrinkage in the world business, but the domestic market grew 5% in the retail of clothing and footwear in the first half compared to the same period last year. This means that Brazil has become the destination for this surplus of stocks from Asia, as well as other Latin American countries.”  

He urged Latin American countries to unite in order to find solutions to the problems faced by the shoe sector.
