Russian market closure hits Chengdu shoemakers

The Cherkizovsky market in Moscow, Russia, was closed on July, much to the dismay of footwear producers in Chengdu, China. The market had been an important point of sale for many exporters in Chengdu, which has been nicknamed the ladies’ shoe capital of China.

According to reports, exporters in the region rely heavily on sales in Russia, selling around 50 million pairs through the Cherkizovsky market per year alone. Shipments to Russia have reportedly been at a standstill since the market closure.

It has been decided that a new retail centre will be established in Moscow so that trade can recommence.
