Vietnam opens up CSR awards to leather sector

                    The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has expanded a national programme of corporate social responsibility awards. A previous initiative was open only to footwear and textile firms, but now leathergoods manufacturers, tanners and all other industrial manufacturers will be able to take part.
The organisation said that the new awards will aim to encourage businesses to improve the working and living conditions of their employees and participate in environmental protection activities.
The competition also aims to enhance companies’reputation and competitive capacity, according to Doan Duy Khuong, deputy chairman of VCCI.
Businesses involved in any sector are eligible to enter the competition.
The award is co-sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, the UN Development Programme and the International Labour Organisation.
The Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association and is one of the bodies to have helped VCCI put the programme together. A previous initiative was open only to footwear and textile firms, but now leathergoods manufacturers, tanners and all other industrial manufacturers will be able to take part.
The winners will be announced in December.
