Cross-border co-operation

Honorary president of the China Leather Industry Association, Xu Yong, has led a group of interested Chinese leather industry figures on an official visit to the Ussuriysk economic and trade cooperation zone in Russia.

The industrial zone, situated around 60 kilometres from the border between the two countries, is a joint development between China and Russia, with prominent Chinese footwear firm Kangnai Group one of the investors. Reports in China suggest many manufacturing companies are keen to expand into this part of Russia.

Seven companies in the Chinese leather sector took part in the trip.

Mr Xu Yong said afterwards that the cooperation zone would help build a stable platform for bilateral trade development, and provide an outlet for Chinese leathergoods to enter Russia and other eastern European countries. "We should encourage more outstanding Chinese companies to open businesses in this industrial zone," he added.
