Lahore-based footwear manufacturer, retailer and exporter Firhaj Footwear, has said it plans to increase its shoe upper capacity from 75,000 pairs to 100,000 pairs by 2012. The company also said it would double its output of PU soles from 50,000 to 100,000 per month in the same timeframe. It said its expansion plans would cost an estimated cost $1 million.

The company also plans to increase exports to the US and to other Asian countries.

Farrukh Saleem, the company's chief executive, told footwearbiz.com at the eleventh Pakistan International Footwear Show in June that he was quite happy with the growth in footwear exports from Pakistan; his company recorded export growth of 30% last year.

Exports to Europe have reached $10 million a year, and the company is now seeking agents to help it expand in the Far East.

It is also confident of expansion in the domestic market, where it has an exclusive manufacturing licence to produce shoes under the Hush Puppies brand name and exclusive distribution rights for Caterpillar footwear.
