Footwear opportunities in Algeria

28/05/2009
Algeria’s trade minister, El Hachemi Djaaboub, has said his country will create the best possible conditions to encourage bilateral trade with Vietnam.

He made the statement in an address to a Vietnamese trade delegation that visited the North African country at the end of May, led by deputy minister of industry and trade, Nguyen Thanh Bien.

Part of the Vietnamese delegation stayed in
Algiers
to seek out immediate opportunities for bilateral cooperation through a business forum. It included representatives of 15 Vietnamese companies that import and export leather footwear, along with textiles, rice, coffee and coconut fibre.

Last year,
Vietnam
earned $75.63 million from exports to the Algerian market, a year-on-year increase of 87%.

Exports from
Algeria to Vietnam are worth a comparatively small amount at the moment, $1.2 million a year.
