Shoe production rises in Pakistan

                    The latest figures show a big decline in the production of finished leather, down by 25% during the month of March to 1.4 million square-metres compared to 1.9 million in March 2008.
However, the production of footwear recorded a growth of 20.9% in March, producing 2.6 million pairs in March 2009 compared with 2.1 million pairs in the same month last year. The production of sole leather also showed an upward trend of 87.5% to 15 tonnes in March 2009 compared to eight tonnes in March 2008.
