Lanxess announces new products to improve shoe leather

Specialty chemicals provider Lanxess has brought to market two new products for the wet end process.
The products are Levotan LB and Tanigan CF liquid, which Lanxess is aiming at manufacturers of high-quality shoe and upholstery leathers.
Levotan LB strengthens Lanxess’s offering of softening polymers for the leather industry, which the company says are increasingly replacing fatliquoring agents owing to “technical and ecological advantages”.
Christopher Tysoe, head of the wet end department in the product development and application section of the company’s leather business unit commented: “Levotan LB enables manufacturers to reduce the specific weight compared to traditionally fatliquored leather, resulting in end products that are light, fluffy and soft, but nevertheless hard-wearing, exactly what our customers are asking for.”
The new Tanigan CF liquid was developed specifically for the manufacture of wet white leather. It has, Lanxess says, “an excellent grain-tightening effect and good filling properties, and gives a firm, smooth and very flat grain even on soft articles which are dry-drummed for a long time”. The company believes these properties will make the syntan ideal for the production of leather with a smooth finish, but also for embossed goods with excellent print retention. It says Tanigan CF liquid will also improve the tightness of loosely structured raw material, to a level that it claims is not possible with conventional syntans.
