CITT reports inquiry findings
The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) has announced that there is evidence to suggest that dumping of certain footwear items from China and Vietnam has harmed local manufacturers. As a result, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), which initiated an investigation into the alleged injurious dumping of these goods on February 27, will continue its investigation and, by May 28, 2009, will issue a preliminary determination.
On March 2, the CITT initiated a preliminary inquiry into a complaint from the Shoe Manufacturers' Association of Canada that it had been badly afffected as a result of dumped imports of waterproof footwear and waterproof footwear in nearly finished form from China and Vietnam.
The preliminary injury inquiry followed a notification from the president of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on February 27, that it had initiated an investigation into the alleged dumping of these goods.
Should the CBSA find there is a positive dumping margin, all such goods imported on or after that date will be subject to provisional anti-dumping duties. In addition, on that date, the CITT will initiate its material inquiry.
