Higher revenues at Bata India

Footwear manufacturer and retailer Bata India has posted a 6.8% sales increase for its first quarter ended March 31. Sales for the quarter totalled Rs2.3 billion ($46.5 million) compared with Rs2.2 billion during the same period last year.

Managing director, Marcelo Villagran, said the company continues to show a marked growth despite the tough economic conditions. The firm opened 32 new retail stores and renovated three existing stores during the quarter.

Despite this, the company posted a 6.4% drop in net profit for the quarter. Profit was Rs103.3 million compared with Rs110.3 million during the same quarter last year.
