Getting to grips with Vibram
Footwear sole specialist Vibram has developed IdroGrip, which is said to provide maximum grip on wet and slippery ground. Its new StreamTread sole, which uses IdroGrip technology, has been developed for use in three Simms angling shoes. The sole is effective on all types of surface, whether rough or smooth, dry or wet. According to the company, using the soles on a wet rock surface gives the wearer the impression of wearing “sticky shoes”. It claims that it has a higher friction coefficient on wet rock than on any other water sole currently on the market. The technology enables users to remain in control in all situations, and the sole wears evenly over time.
IdroGrip is best suited for activities such canyoning, hiking, "easy" climbing, caving and other sports undertaken in extreme environments. It also enables cyclists (BMX Flat, downhill, duel or fourcross) to bind to their bikes, avoiding energy loss despite dirt, grit and uneven surfaces.
The three models that use the StreamTread sole are the Simms G4 Guide Boot, the Simms Rivershed Boot and the Simms Freestone Boot.
The Simms G4 Guide Boot is said to be the “hardest working boot” that Simms has developed yet. It uses features leather and Schoeller fabric technology and offers a moulded toe and heel and a full neoprene lining.
Simms Rivershed Boot is a more athletic, lighter boot for anglers. Its 100% synthetic upper construction is lightweight, quick-drying and facilitates easy cleaning. A full perimeter rubber rand and a moulded toe box provide protection and durability.
The Simms Freestone Boot is from synthetic materials and is fully neoprene lined, offering minimal water absorption. It features a moulded heel and toe as well as a padded tongue for increased comfort and fit.
