Cooperation opportunities for Vietnam and Algeria
Vietnam’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been looking for ways to promote collaboration with Algerian firms. It hosted a workshop in Hanoi on April 23 in order to explore the opportunities available.
Deputy minister of industry and trade, Le Danh Vinh, said at the event that Algeria could open up the African market for Vietnamese trade, acting as a gateway into other African nations. He added that although the distance between the two countries is vast, it was still possible, and viable, to increase economic, trade and industrial cooperation.
Bilateral trade totalled approximately $105 million in 2008. However, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry believes this falls way below potential trade earnings.
Footwear, rubber products and plastics are among the main exports from Vietnam to Algeria. Imports from Algeria include cotton, fruit and mineral ores.
