Pakistani footwear exports rise
According to data from Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics, finished leather production fell 25% in February. However, shoe production rose 32% to 2.6 million pairs compared with 1.9 million pairs in the prior-year period. Sole leather production rose 112.5% to 17 tons in February compared with eight tons.
Furthermore, while total leather production for the period July 2008 to February 2009 fell 5%, shoe production rose 22% during the eight-month period to 19.3 million pairs from 15.8 million pairs in the prior-year period. Sole leather production rose 26.9% to 85 tons from 67 tons.
