The 22 Brazilian companies that attended GDS from March 13 to 15 have reported considersable success at the event, considering the global financial crisis causing a slowdown in consumption.

The brands Malu and Território Nacional, both manufactured by Calçados Malu (from the city of Lindolfo Collor in the state of Rio Grande do Sul), opened a number of new contacts. Nathalia Schneider of the company’s export department said afterwards: “It surprised us positively, because we did not expect much movement or to complete any business”.

GDS was also a success for Calçados Klin (from the city of Birigui in the state of São Paulo) because, according to the founder of the company, Fabio Chalita, many new contacts were made.

The business conducted by the Brazilian companies during the fair totalled US$ 3.7 million, with countries on five continents. The Brazilian footwear federation, Abicalçados, said it expects the contacts from GDS to add $11.5 million over the next 12 months.

A collective Brazilian booth in Hall 3 hosted the brands Pegada, Ramarim, Piccadilly, Divietto, Cecconello, Nicolla Mezzi, Dilly, TryOn, Malu Super Comfort/Território Nacional, Wolpco, Klin, Bical, Bottero/Madeira Brasil, Paralelepypedo, Ricarelly and Lia Line. The brands Rider, Ipanema Grendha, Via Uno, Miezko, Anatomic & Co, Beira Rio, Vizzan, Toccado and Sapatoterapia had their own stands.
