Italy absent at Fashion Access

The footwear pavillion at the Fashion Access exhibition, held concurrently with APLF in Hong Kong, from March 31 to April 2, has no Italian exhibitors.

The organisers have expressed regret at the lack of an Italian presence, but said that Italian footwear brands and industry suppliers were missing out by choosing not to exhibit.

APLF director Michael Duck said on confirming the news: “Italian footwear brands need to export their shoes even more now than ever before. Now is the time. They need to work harder to come back and build up a presence here in Hong Kong because people here will spend money on expensive Italian shoes.

His colleague, senior event manager, Perrine Ardouin, added: “I've spoken to people from one Italian company that is visiting the fair. They said that compared to Hong Kong, shops in Europe were displaying old footwear collections, whereas, here in Hong Kong, innovative, new, beautiful, expensive shoes are in the shops because that's what people want to buy.”
