Less lightweight leather production

31/03/2009

China’s tanners produced 680 million square-metres of finished lightweight leather in 2007, but this figure fell to 640 million square-metres last year.

The president of the China Leather Industry Association, Madama Zhang Shuhua, said on confirming these figures that the lower result for 2008 was entirely down to lower levels of production of the lightweight leather that is used mostly in footwear in October, November and December.

She went on to say that China’s total output of leather in 2009 would be down by between 20% and 30% on last year.
