FootJoy to close factory
25/03/2009
Leather cutters will be the first to lose their jobs when FootJoy closes its Brockton, Massachusetts, factory in April. Cutters will be the first to finish their role in making the final batch of the company’s Classic Goodyear welted golf shoes.
In all, 109 people work at the plant, which has made shoes since the 1850s. FootJoy president, James Connor, said the decision to close the facility had been painful, but insisted the company was losing millions of dollars a year.
The Brockton factory is the only one FootJoy has left in the US, and the only one that runs at a loss.
