Iconic shoe designer makes London appearance

24/03/2009

The organisers of an annual fundraising gala at the Institute of Contemporary Art in London on March 26 invited Dutch footwear designer Jan Jansen to attend as a special guest.

Mr Jansen said he was happy to help with the fundraising effort and offered to auction off on the evening a pair of his shoes and a visit to his studio in the Netherlands.

Jan Jansen, who was honoured with a perspective exhibition at the Lineapelle exhibition in Bologna in April 2008, developed his passion for footwear in the 1960s when he designed his first shoes for both men and women. His designs are quirky and original, and include the Woody, a colourful clog shaped sandal from his 1960s collection, shoe called Kissing the Pope’s toe from the 1990s, and the For Snoecks from the current decade.

Jan Jansen has also worked with fashion icons such as Gucci, who produced the Erotica line especially for Jan Jansen in Italy.
