Vietnamese footwear industry to shed jobs

Vietnam's labour ministry has said the country is likely to lose around 300,000 jobs this year as a result of slower demand for footwear and other Vietnamese produced goods in export markets.
Speaking on March 20, labour minister Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said most of the cuts would be made by manufacturing companies that focus mainly on exports, and she specifically mentioned the footwear industry as one of those most likely to be hit.
She said 85,000 jobs were cut in 40 provinces and cities in January, and that more jobs have been lost in February and March.
