Madrid fair gets under way

The Modacalzado and Iberpiel events opened their doors in Madrid on March 17.
With 350 firms taking part, exhibitor numbers have fallen by 29% compared to last year.
The atmosphere between the Spanish Footwear Industry Federation (FICE), which organises the exhibition, and some of the country’s footwear manufacturers has been tense since since the last edition of Modacalzado in September. The president of FICE, Rafael Calvo, said at the end of last year that some manufacturers were unfairly blaming a low turnout at the exhibition for poor business results.
Some footwear brands are reported to have set up displays of their latest collections in Madrid hotels rather than at the exhibition.
