Portugal's Centre for Footwear Technology (CTC) has named the winners of a series of awards it hands out each for innovation in the industry.

At a ceremony in Madeira, the organisation gave the prize for products to Jomarpi, a manufacturer that produces 1,100 pairs a day, most of which go for export to other parts of Europe.

The prize for innovative use of materials went to components manufacturer Procalçado, while the award in the retail category went to Sonae for its work in developing its Loop brand. Sonae spent €1 million in opening four new stores across Portugal last year.

Finally, an award for innovation in equipment went to automation technology provider Lirel.
