Flashier displays, but fewer shoes

Footwear manufacturers in Spain’s principal province for shoe production, Alicante, have complained that retailers across the country are ordering fewer shoes and devoting more in-store space to showing colourful displays to present current trends in style and colour to consumers.

The commercial director of the Spanish Footwear Industry Federation (FICE), Javier García Lillo, has confirmed to local media that some manufacturers have seen orders fall by as much as 40% compared to a year ago. He said the fall in orders was an indication of the extent to which families in Spain are cutting back on spending.
