Micam ‘a beacon of hope’

10/03/2009

The latest edition of the Micam footwear exhibition took place in Milan from March 4–7. Organising body, the National Association of Italian Footwear Manufacturers (ANCI), said there had been “a limited drop in the number of accredited visitors”.

In all, 36,555 leather and footwear professionals attended the three-day even, which is 5.7% fewer than in February 2008. This year there were 17,610 visitors from Italy and 18,945 from overseas.

“We never concealed the fact that we were approaching the exhibition with a few worries,” said ANCI president Vito Artioli. “Now, at the end of the event, I nevertheless consider myself to be satisfied by these work days. Satisfied because, given the current financial situation, this is still a positive outcome compared to the very negative trend of the last few months in the international markets, and it is therefore a beacon of hope for the entire sector and confirmation of the importance of Micam. But it is especially important to emphasise the fact that this trade fair is once again confirmed as a vital marketing tool that allows companies to present themselves to the market and enables buyers to view the most comprehensive range of products on offer.”

There were 1,611 exhibitors at the event this time presenting their collections for the 2009–2010 autumn-winter season.
