Kobi Levi is working on a more “factory-friendly” shoe collection

Within the next year, a more “factory-friendly” Kobi Levi collection could go into production. They will be artisan-made and will be far from cheap, but they will be easier for the public to buy.
Speaking at an event in Northampton to mark the start of an exhibition of his work, Mr Levi said the move was not about making his shoes more commercial. He said the shoes would be no less creative and no less fun than his previous work. “But they will have to work on a production line,” he said, “so they have to be technically less challenging.”
Later, he told leatherbiz: “Two factories are testing the ideas right now, one in Portugal and one in Spain. Lots of footwear producers looked at my shoes on the website and were scared off, but these two were not, so it’s been interesting.”
The exhibition, entitled ‘Kobi and the Playful World of Shoes’, will run at the Northampton Museum & Art Gallery until July 20.
