US fashion website Women’s Wear Daily has released the results of a reader survey of ‘hot topics’ in 2011, revealing that the barefoot running trend was the most popular footwear trend of the year.

The website did not reveal how many readers responded to the survey, but stated that ‘barefoot/minimalism’ got 26% of votes from those questioned. In second place with 18% of votes was ‘vintage/Americana’, followed by ‘lightweight running’, which got 15% of votes.

‘Espadrilles’, ‘ladylike silhouettes’, and ‘menswear-inspired looks’ also scored highly in the survey.
